If you are a leader (and we are all leaders), I urge you to pause and ask yourself, "Who am I (?)" Remember: we are different things at different times. Accordingly, it is often a good idea to allow other people the same latitude and timeframe of growth from which we, ourselves, have benefitted tremendously. TRANSLATION: No one is perfect; let us all learn from our respective mistakes. And, as a leader of people, be a proponent, a protagonist, and a provocateur of positive change. A provocateur!? Indeed, this word often has a negative connotation. However, in truth, the best definition is, perhaps, the definition that describes a provocateur as “an artist or activist whose work suggests ideas that are threatening to accepted values or practices.” In other words, a provocateur is someone who creatively changes the status quo. A provocateur is someone who sacrifices surety of sanctimony for surety of self. A provocateur is someone who values vicissitudes over platitudes. A provocateur is someone who not only provokes, but also evokes. This is a subtle play on words, but it is a worthy play on such words. To provoke, one stirs action. To evoke, one must also engage emotion and a certain sense of consciousness. If you, as a leader, can successfully do this, you are amazing. And… you and your team will become successful. In doing so, you will remember this: “Though my view of the distant horizon will always be somewhat skewed (for it is something that will always look different once I arrive at that distant vantage point)... Today, here, now... I am thankful; sometimes I am not. I can see... literally and figuratively. There are many who have never had the miracle of sight, and many more who choose to only leer into darkness. I am listening intently; sometimes I don't. There are some who merely hear... ...and many more who simply turn their heads, turn up the volume, and ultimately harden their hearts. Today, I am aligned with The Surety, The Source of it all... I am alive with the gift of sight, sound, sensibility, and so much more. I can walk. I am walkING. I can see. I am seekING. I am blessed beyond measure. I AM.” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Aloha, John John H.
