23 Things to Do on the Island of Oahu
- Makapuu Lighthouse trail to hike and whale watch. Go early and catch the sunrise!
- North Shore drive—stop at Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach to swim, look for turtles, and watch surfers.
- Stand-Up paddle board down the stream in Haleiwa – see sea turtles. Then eat shave ice at Matsumoto Shave Ice in Haleiwa
- Waikiki Beach Walk during sunset-‐ stop at Rumfire for sunset and listen to live music (eat somewhere else)
- Drive to Keana Point via Leeward Coast – (can see whale pods in the winter season) or drive there via the North Shore.
- Lounge on Lanikai Beach – kayak to the Mokes (small islands off Laniki Beach)
- Hike Diamond Head… a great hike, especially in the morning.
- Snorkel at Hanauma Bay… Pay attention to the video ~ it’s a great place to snorkel, but don’t underestimate the ocean.
- Hike Mariners Ridge-‐ quick hike and you get great views of the windward coast
- On the first Friday of the month, try “First Friday” in Chinatown –local artists, good food, happy hourprices, and dancing
- Kapiolani Community College Farmers Market reopens on Saturday, September 25th. – sample local foods and hang loose!
- Olomana Hike (3 peaks) – kinda dangerous and not for people who are afraid of heights. Amazing and exhilarating
- Koko Head Crater hike… make sure you’re in good physical condition. The view is AWESOME!
- Sit on the beach at Ala Moana Beach Park, eat poke (pO-kay), drink a beer, and watch the sunset (poke and beeroptional)
- Polynesian Cultural Center to learn about cultures and watch “HA: Breathe of Life” (All‐day event; plan accordingly)
- Skydive in Waialua; you can do a same-day tandem jump (I personally did this… and it was amazing)
- Visit Pearl Harbor (including the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri)
- Visit Pali Lookout… an amazing vista point off Pali Highway
- Atlantis Submarine Tour (you actually go down 100 feet and see sunken ships)
- WED/SAT/SUN, get inexpensive souvenirs at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet
- Out further west, try stand-up paddle-boarding at Pililaau Army Recreation Center
- Or, paddle-board or kayak with Beach Equipment Rental at Hickam Beach
